As part of its commitment to improving the local environment Helistrat is pleased to announce that it has become an affiliated partner of the local action group The Final Straw Solent (www.finalstrawsolent.org).

The Final Straw Solent are local campaign group that is encouraging businesses and individuals to try to reduce the amount of single-use plastic that they use. One of the group’s key objectives is to make the Solent region a place where not giving out plastic straws is the norm, and where everyone tries to cut down on the amount of single-use plastic they consume, from plastic bottles and cups to shopping bags.

In order to become affiliated Helistrat has made a number of pledges to reduce its plastic waste. These include:

  • Setting up a team of sustainability champions to identify ways to reduce office waste
  • Providing reusable cups and glasses for employees
  • Providing fruit cordials to encourage people not to buy flavored or fizzy drinks
  • Raising employee awareness on plastic waste and the alternatives

Final Straw Solent founder, Bianca Carr, states

‘We are thrilled that Helistrat has become an affiliated partner of the Final Straw Solent. The steps they are taking to reduce their consumption of single-use plastic will make a difference to the amount of plastic waste they produce as a team and will set an excellent example to other businesses. We are really excited to be working together and are looking forward to sharing future events and projects with them.’

Helistrat’s Head of Sustainably, Nathan Gray, said:

“Millions of plastic straws are thrown away every day, each one has an average life of just twenty minutes but takes over 200 years to break down.  We look forward to working with Final Straw to both reduce our use of single use plastics and raise awareness of the issue in Hampshire and the Solent region.”

Members of Helistrat’s team will also be supporting Final Straw at their beach clean-up event in July details for which can be found on the Final Straw Solent Facebook page, facebook.com/finalstrawsolent.
